Introduction

This website is aimed at the general public and aims to educate people about mental illnesses including addictions. Hopefully it would help in minimising the stigma that is associated with these illnesses. This is a very simple website which has been divided into a number of sections, each dealing with a particular mental illness.
To cover every single mental illness would be beyond the scope of this website. I have therefore tried to limit myself to the most common forms of mental illnesses. I have devoted some web space to Cognitive behavioural therapy and Psychotherapy as these form a very important part in the treatment of almost all types of mental disorders and can work where medications fail. There are two diagnostic criterias for mental illness, namely DSM IV (American) and ICD 10 (UK, WHO). I have largely used the ICD 10 Criteria, as is the norm in the UK.

Disclaimer

The aim of this website is purely to inform people regarding mental disorders and their treatments. All information on this website is authentic, to the best of my knowledge.
Kindly note the treatments described in this website reflect practices in the UK and may not apply to all parts of the world. Also psychiatry is a rapidly changing field, hence treatments may have changed by time that you are reading this. I would like to add here that if you are experiencing any of the symptoms described in this website then please seek appropriate help as this website is not a replacement for a psychiatrist.

Acknowledgements

I am thankful to all authors whose work I have used as reference in making this website. I am especially thankful to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK & National Institute of Mental Health, USA as their patient information leaflets inspired me to come up with this website for patients coming from less privileged parts of the world.
